Yaa Yaa is a dedicated educational leader with a steadfast commitment to student success, equity, and inclusive learning.
She began her career as a high school mathematics teacher in Brooklyn and has since held leadership roles across New York City, Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, Middletown, and Monticello. Most recently, she served as Director of Student Equity, where she led K–12 curriculum initiatives centered on diversity, inclusion, belonging and culturally responsive education.
One of Yaa Yaa’s most formative experiences was teaching mathematics at the founding P-TECH campus in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. She went on to serve as Assistant Principal and Principal at P-TECH schools in both Brooklyn and Poughkeepsie, deepening her commitment to innovative, student-centered education models.
A first-generation college graduate, Yaa Yaa earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics and Africana Studies from Brown University, along with dual Master’s degrees in Secondary Education and School Leadership from Pace University. A passionate book lover and lifelong learner, she also runs an independent bookstore in her home district, reflecting her dedication to literacy and community empowerment. She is the author of a children’s book memorializing the historic bookstore entitled “My Trip To The Bookseum” and launched a podcast, UNtenurED, for educators and educational leader to speak about the professional journeys.
Yaa Yaa is excited to collaborate with BOCES colleagues and local districts to improve student outcomes and build joyful, equitable school cultures. Her personal mantra—“Community is a VERB”—captures the energy, action, and purpose she brings to her work in education.
